Condominium Fees (Condomínio)

In Portugal, building maintenance fees (Condomínio) are typically the responsibility of the landlord, not the tenant, unless explicitly stated otherwise in the rental contract. Always check your lease for this clause.

If you buy an apartment, request a "Declaration of No Debt" from the administrator before signing the deed. Without this, you could legally inherit the previous owner's unpaid debts for elevator repairs or building painting.
