Rules for Dangerous Dog Breeds

Portugal classifies 7 breeds (including Pitbulls, Rottweilers, and Staffordshire Terriers) as "potentially dangerous". Owners must have a clean criminal record, specific liability insurance, and the dog must be sterilized.

You also need to pass a physical/psychological aptitude test to own these breeds. When walking them, a muzzle and a short leash (max 1 meter) are mandatory by law. Failure to comply can lead to the animal being seized.
