Driving a Foreign Car in Portugal
If you become a resident, you cannot drive a foreign-plated car for more than 20 working days. You must either legalize it (import it) or sell/export it. The "6-month rule" applies only to tourists.
Police frequently check foreign cars near schools and residential areas. If they suspect you are a resident driving a foreign car to avoid taxes, they can seize the vehicle and issue a massive fine equal to the unpaid import tax.
