When to Renew Your License

Portuguese driving licenses do not just expire every 10 years. They expire at specific ages: 30, 40, 50, 60, 65, and then every 2 years. If you exchanged your foreign license, check the validity date carefully.

You must renew it within 6 months before your birthday in the renewal year. Missing this deadline can result in fines or even the cancellation of your license, forcing you to retake the driving exam.
