Is the NHR Tax Regime Gone?

The classic NHR (Non-Habitual Resident) regime, which offered 0% tax on pensions, was closed to new applicants in 2024. It has been replaced by a much stricter version (IFICI) focused on scientific and innovation careers.

Standard retirees or remote workers usually no longer qualify for special tax breaks unless they fall into very specific transition rules. Assume you will pay standard progressive tax rates unless told otherwise by a specialist.
