Police: PSP vs. GNR

Portugal has two main police forces. The PSP (Blue uniforms) operates in large cities like Lisbon and Porto. The GNR (Green uniforms) is a military force that patrols rural areas and highways.

If you have a car accident or a noise complaint, you must call the force responsible for your specific jurisdiction. Dialing 112 will automatically route you to the correct one, but knowing the difference helps when visiting a station.
