Power of Attorney (Procuração)

If you cannot be in Portugal to sign a deed or get a NIF, you can give a "Procuração" to a lawyer or friend. This legal document authorizes them to act on your behalf for specific tasks.

It must be signed at a Notary in Portugal or at a Portuguese Consulate abroad. Be specific about the powers you grant (e.g., "only to buy house X" rather than "general management") to protect your assets.
