Getting Your Security Deposit Back

Disputes over the security deposit (Caução) are common. Landlords often try to keep it for "painting" or minor wear and tear. Legally, the deposit covers damage, not normal usage.

To protect yourself, take detailed photos of the apartment on the day you move in and the day you move out. If the landlord refuses to return the deposit without a valid invoice for repairs, you can file a complaint or threaten legal action.
