Tipping Culture in Portugal
Tipping (Gorjeta) is not mandatory in Portugal, unlike in the US. Service charges are usually included in the bill. However, leaving a small tip is appreciated for good service.
In cafes, locals often round up to the nearest euro (leaving 10-20 cents). In restaurants, a tip of 5% to 10% is generous and well-received. Tipping taxi drivers or couriers is not expected but rounding up the fare is common courtesy.
