Unemployment Benefits for Expats

Foreign residents have the same right to unemployment benefits as citizens, provided they have contributed to Social Security. To qualify, you must have worked as an employee for at least 360 days in the last 24 months.

You must register at the IEFP (Employment Center) immediately after losing your job involuntarily. Resigning voluntarily (demissão) disqualifies you from receiving these benefits.
