You can apply for Portuguese citizenship after 5 years of legal residency. Crucially, the clock starts ticking from the moment you submitted your residency request, not from the day you received your card.

To qualify, you must pass a basic Portuguese language test (CIPLE level A2) and have a clean criminal record. This passport grants you full rights to live and work anywhere in the European Union.
